Theme-a-licious August

Altius August

Embrace the Olympic motto–Citius, Altius, Fortius (Faster, Higher, Stronger)–by elevating your mind.  It’s the perfect time to learn something new!  Or maybe achieve some goals…

I’m borrowing from our favorite Themer, Ms. Heather and creating events for this month’s goals.  Note:  the timeline for this is August 1-31st.  No two week craziness!

Presenting the Five-MultiColor-Rings-of-Goal-Achievement!

I know, it doesn’t have quite the same ring, but we don’t want any cease and desist letters…

2012 Goals

Tis the time of year for looking ahead…

I’m keeping it simple this year 🙂

2012 Goals:

  • Keep up with TUSAL posts
  • Keep up with Measi’s WIPocalypse plans and posts
  • Have fewer WIPs at the end of 2012 than the start (47!!)
  • Start stash cataloging… (tool TBD)

WIPocalypse and Theme-licious 2012

It’s that time of year again…to look at next year’s stitching plans!

You may have seen Measi’s WIPocalypse making the blog rounds.  While I will not admit to the number of projects that are currently filling the various WIP storage areas in my stash, I will say it’s more than 10.  And less than 50.

In the spirit of getting them out of WIP status and on to the walls, I’m taking on the WIPocalypse challenge for 2012.  I’ve made a page to help keep track.  While there’s a starting list for the challenge, it will probably change before January 1st and all along throughout the year.

There will be a January 1 start.  Right now, I’m thinking Bluebell by Mirabilia…. which would play perfectly into the January Theme from Heather’s Theme-licious 2012.

One thing I’m not doing next year is anything exchange or RR-related.  I will probably do a monthly project as that worked out well this year.  I’m thinking the new monthly cottages from Country Cottage Needleworks but haven’t made a final decision yet on layout and fabric.  I’m also considering Long Dog’s Bhyr Deeze as a SAL with a couple other gals.

Three new starts along with a dozen WIPs pulled out for next year.  We’ll see how the plans hold up….

September Goals

Last month, the Boys went with the generic list:

  • Start Something
  • Finish Something
  • Read Something
  • Make Progress on Something
  • Stitch

I can happily report I was 100% successful!!

  • Start – August Pine Mountain Pillow and Venice Mandala
  • Finish – July Pillow
  • Read – Finished Ghost Story by Jim Butcher and started Crunch Time by Diane Mott Davidson
  • Make Progress – Calling this good given the start/finish numbers
  • Stitch – Yup!

Of course, the fact that I had a one week vacation certainly helped.  I’m keeping the same goals for September.  The new start sorta happened already on Friday….

All My Acres – Goals For All

Joe: Hello Stitch Fans!  Welcome to a Special Edition of the Monthly Goal Post

Fred: Special Edition?

J: Yeah.. you know that thing we’ve been working on?  It’s time for the debut!

F: Finally going to share our idea with the world?  Help those poor misguided crafters meandering their way thru their monthly plans?  Looking for clear guidance and crying out for any help they can possibly find!!  Aching for…

J: Fred.  Dude.  Lighten up.

F:  Ok.

J: Let’s do a quick recap of July’s plans.

  • Finish Mirabilia RR and mail (started on Saturday)
  • Finish Chatelaine Exchange piece
  • Start/Finish July Pine Mountain pillow
  • Finish Moon Over Soho and River Marked

F:  Well, not bad at all.  75% success.

J:  Yes.  The only miss was the Pine Mountain piece.  I call it a successful month.  What do you think?

F: 75% is a C, so that’s a passing grade.

J:  Uh yeah.  Let’s move on to The Big News!

F: Stitch Fans – Having trouble setting your own Monthly Goals?  Feeling the telltale twinge of envy as you cruise the blogsphere and read thru post after post of plans and clearly defined time-boxed entries?  We have the answer!

J: We’ve done an exhaustive evaluation* of monthly goals and developed a turn-key solution!  A set of goals with tremendous potential:

  • Use them As-Is
  • Customize for your current projects
  • Generate personalized goals based on our handy template

F: That’s right, folks.  This is *The* most flexible goal-setting solution!  Are you ready to join the thousands** of bloggers on the Monthly Goals bandwagon?  Ready to report real progress each month or simply increasing your posts per month if not your actual stitching progress….

J: Just follow these simple steps:

  1. Copy the Base Goals listed below
  2. Paste to your own Blog Post
  3. Customize (optional)
  4. Post!

That’s it! Sit back and enjoy a clear conscience knowing *you* have a clear strategy and plan for your stitching time.***

F:  Just to show how simple it is, we’re going to use only the Base Goals for Annette this month.  Here they are…

  • Start Something
  • Finish Something
  • Read Something
  • Make Progress on Something
  • Stitch

That’s it! Short.  Simple. And at least one guaranteed with a single stitch in a given month.

J: No need to thank us, Stitch Fans!  We are here to meet all your Goal and entertainment needs….  Until next month!

F: Keep Stitching and We’ll Keep the Frogs Away!

  • *Have to make this gig work for us somehow
  • **At least two or three that we know of.  I’m sure there are more we don’t know, right?
  • ***Your Mileage May Vary.  Results Not Typical. Please keep your hands inside the car at all times.  No animals were harmed in the creation of this post.

Goals – July 2011

Fred and Joe are out on assignment this month, so I’ll have to do the goals update myself.

They listed five for me last month:

  1. Finish/Mail Mirabilia RR – Yes 🙂
  2. Greek Mandala – 10 hours – I got a few hours in (based on the progress pic) but not the full 10
  3. Start/Finish January Pine Mountain Kit – No*
  4. Spring Queen – 10 hours – Uhhh… no.
  5. Finish one book on Currently Reading Shelf – Yes!  I finished Pleasure of a Dark Prince by Kresley Cole.

* Evidence:

The fabric is a bit stiff, thus the slow progress.

I did pull out an older WIP and put in a few stitches.  I added the tree on the left and started the fourth house.  This is Liberty Lane by Country Cottage Needleworks

For July, I’m keeping it simple.

  • Finish Mirabilia RR and mail (started on Saturday)
  • Finish Chatelaine Exchange piece
  • Start/Finish July Pine Mountain pillow
  • Finish Moon Over Soho and River Marked

Happy Fourth of July to all my US friends!

All My Acres – Goals

:: tap tap tap ::

Joe:  Is this thing on?  Fred?  Are you there?

Fred: Yup, I’m here.

Joe:  Whew… glad you got the text.

Fred: What text?

Joe: Didn’t you get Annette’s text asking us to post the goal review?

Fred: Nope.

Joe:  Then….ummm….. why are you here?

Fred:  I’m always here, Joe.

Joe:  :: pause ::  Ok, then.  Anyway, I got the update, so how about reminding the readers what the May goals were?

Fred: Sure thing….

  1. Start/Finish May Pine Mountain kit
  2. Start/Finish next Mira RR
  3. 10 hours on Greek Mandala
  4. 10 hours on Swan Lake
  5. Second pattern repeat on Helix Scarf

Joe: Ok, based on her text, here’s the update:

  1. Yes
  2. Half
  3. Yes
  4. No
  5. No

Fred: A bit cryptic.  I guess that means she accomplished the Pine Mountain kit and the Greek Mandala hours, started the Mirabilia RR design and didn’t make the last two.

Joe: Wow.  You are good, Fred.  I suppose those Stash Cams you put in recently really help.

Fred: Maybe.  The one in the garage only works when the light is on, though.

Joe:  I suppose that makes sense.  Hey!  Look here.  There’s a picture of the Greek Mandala progress:

Fred: Nice.

Joe:  So, Annette didn’t leave us any hints for June goals.  Maybe we should make up a few for her.

Fred: Ok.  Let me consult the Stash Cam by her stitching chair to see what is in the pile.  I see the Mirabilia RR….. I think that’s a good first goal.

Joe:  Good call.  She made good progress on Greek Mandala, let’s keep that on the list this month.

Fred: She finished the June Pine Mountain kit, but did you notice we never saw January’s?  I think she needs to catch up this month.

Joe:  A little cool stitching in a warm month.  Great idea.  Hey, is that Spring Queen I see hidden away next to the chair?  How about 10 hours on that this month?

Fred: I think we should give her a non-stitching goal, too.  You know she’s been working a lot lately, a little escapist reading would be a good idea.  That book shelf over on the right hasn’t changed much in the last few weeks.

Joe:  Sounds like a plan.  Here’s where we ended up:

  1. Finish/Mail Mirabilia RR
  2. Greek Mandala – 10 hours
  3. Start/Finish January Pine Mountain Kit
  4. Spring Queen – 10 hours
  5. Finish one book on Currently Reading Shelf

Fred: A good mix.  Are we done?

Joe: I think so!  See you next month, Stitch Fans!

Fred: psst… Joe.
Joe: Yeah?
Fred:  Do you think she’ll let us come back after creating goals for her?
Joe: Sure.  What’s the worst that can happen?  Oh wait…. don’t answer that.
Fred:  Good call.

TUSAL – May 2011

It’s that time of the month again….

On the right, please note my Totally Useless SAL jar for the month of May.  We had a Guest Stitcher this month – there’s a bit of yellow and green in there from Kylie’s stitching last month – a tiny pineapple (if you are a Psych fan, as she is, you’ll understand the pineapple).

My contributions were from the April Pine Mountain kit, a Mirabilia RR and some more Greek Mandala stitching.

On the left, you may notice a shiny new pair of scissors.  Mom surprised me with them last weekend 😀  She knows me so well….

Fred & Joe are on assignment this month, so I’ll have to do a quick goals recap without their usual commentary 😉

  1. Start/Finish April Pine Mountain kit – Done!
  2. Start/Finish Susan’s Mira RR – Done!
  3. 10 Hours on Greek Mandala – Done!
  4. 10 Hours on Swan Lake – Uhhh…no.  Didn’t touch it.
  5. One Full Pattern on Helix Scarf – Done!

80% Complete!  Woot!

Can lightning strike twice?  Let’s try something similar for May….

  1. Start/Finish May Pine Mountain kit
  2. Start/Finish next Mira RR (this will be a stretch given the mail date isn’t until mid-month)
  3. 10 hours on Greek Mandala
  4. 10 hours on Swan Lake
  5. Second pattern repeat on Helix Scarf

And that’s it for today!

All My Acres – April Goals

Joe:  Hello Stitch Fans!!  Wow.  Four weeks turned into a few more.  Hey Fred!  How ya been?

Fred: I’m good, Joe.  Been keeping busy.

Joe: Oh? Anything of interest to the readers?

Fred: No.

Joe: Oh. Well, then, let’s get right to it! I suppose we should start with a recap of February.  Can you flip back the calendar and remind the readers of the plans?

Fred: Sure…..

For February, we had a few goals:

1 – Finish the Chewy Panther socks.

Joe: A moment of silence is in order, I think.  That project simply wasn’t meant to be.

Fred: Next on the list:

2 – Finish Mill Hill Winter Wonderland

Joe: Hmmm… another miss.  I guess that blue on blue just did her in.

Fred: I thought I heard some muttering about the fabric and something about “tiny holes”.  Maybe, related?

Joe: Could be.  Though have you seen some of the stuff she works on lately? None of the holes are very big!

Fred: Well, the next goal had a different result…

3 – Start/Finish Pine Mountain February Band for DH for Valentine’s

Joe: Yes! Started. Finished. Skipped the t-shirt.

Fred: And last, but not least….

4 – Select the next WIP for finishing out of the overflowing WIP box.

Joe: One would have thought this was the simplest of all.

Fred: Ain’t that the truth, Joe.

Joe: Well, forget the past! It’s April and that means we can move on to brighter and greener pastures!

Fred:  Uhhh…sure.  Anyway, this month’s list doesn’t look bad.  At least we’ve got a full 30 days.

1 – Start/Finish April Pine Mountain kit

2 – Start/Finish Susan’s Mira RR

Joe: Two solid goals.  And definitely workable.  I think I spotted the Mira working copy and a pile of floss this afternoon.

Fred: Probably.  Baseball season has started, too, and you know what that means….

Joe: Hot dogs and apple pie??

Fred:  Not exactly.  Focused stitching time!

Joe: Oh yeah….

Fred: Do you want to see the remaining three goals for the month?

Joe:  Lay ’em on me!

Fred: Here they are:

3 – 10 hours on Greek Mandala

4 – 10 hours on Swan Lake

5 – One full pattern repeat on Helix scarf

Joe: Ambitious!  Especially if she has to make another NY business trip.  And the job has definitely kicked in to high gear in the last few weeks.  Oh, and don’t forget all the new book releases that have arrived on the doorstop lately…..

Fred: That’s all for this month’s show.  See you all next month with the results!

Joe:….and her new iPhone and that Angry Birds game.  Do you think she’ll get hooked on Words with Friends, too?

Fred:  Hey, Joe?  Don’t discourage her before she’s even gotten started this month.  She’s got decent time management skills….

Joe: Well, yeah, but that Crafty ADD is a killer….

Fred: True that….

All My Acres

Joe:  Hello Stitch Fans!!  It is great to back here at The Acre in 2011.

Fred: Great to see you, Joe.  It is nice to be back for the Monthly Goal Roundup.  Hopefully, this year we’ll make it longer than three months.

Joe: {nodding} Agree with you there, Fred. Of course, we’ve already missed January, so this month we’ll only be looking at the plans for February.

Fred: And quite a plan it is!  Let’s get to it…….

For February, we’ve got a few goals:

1 – Finish the Chewy Panther socks.

Joe: Chewy Panther?

Fred: I just read, Joe.

Joe: True that.

Fred: Next on the list:

2 – Finish Mill Hill Winter Wonderland

Joe: Well, that last progress pic was looking good.  Of course, it is the closest we’ll get to snow in Arizona!

Fred: Oh! Look here… a new start is in the works:

3 – Start/Finish Pine Mountain February Band for DH for Valentine’s

Joe: Oh, how romantic. Moving on….

Fred: And last, but not least….

4 – Select the next WIP for finishing out of the overflowing WIP box.

Joe: Heaven knows she’s got plenty to choose from.

Fred: Ain’t that the truth, Joe.

Joe: That’s it for this month!  See you in four short weeks to review just how things work out…
