Turtle Trot – February

Turtle Trot 2015

Travel mucks with the posting schedule…

Three of my ten pieces saw action this month.

Mill Hill Wanda’s Witchery has a little more progress.  I worked on the outside frame:

MH Wanda's Witchery

I finished Part 1 of Lizzie*Kate’s Unseen Things Mystery

Unseen Things

And finally… I finished January’s Chalk design from Hands on Design

January Let it Snow

On to next month! 🙂

Taking a Breath…

The last two weeks have been rather crazy and I don’t see that stopping at least until sometime in April. So, while I’ve been spending a lot of work hours, I have managed to do a tiny bit of reading and even put in a stitch or two 🙂

Reading Challenge:

29.  A book set somewhere you’ve always wanted to visit

Ben Aaronovitch’s latest entry in the Peter Grant series is Foxglove Summer and it’s set in the English countryside.  Loved it!

Stitching:

Hotel lighting and late work hours doesn’t leave a lot of productive stitching time.  But I can manage something relatively simple now and then.

This is a “blackwork” design by Bird Brain Designs done in blue.  The design is printed on on iron-on sheet and then ironed on the background fabric.  No tracing!  Perle cotton and a sharp needle is all you need to stitch away.  Very little brain power required.  Perfect for my travel project 😉

Sunday Stitches

I’m a homebody.  Of course, this may surprise you given the amount of travel I do for work, but I truly prefer to curl up on my own couch each and every night with needle in hand.  So far this year, it’s been one busy weekend after another and I finally got a quiet one!  Minimal errands. DVR full of good stuff and stitching galore (that’s never an issue).

I finished part one of Lizzie Kate’s Things Unseen Sampler:

Things Unseen Sampler

The fabric is 32-ct PTP Wren and Weeks flosses.  I’m *very* tempted to start part 3 (the bottom) and then do part 2.  I’m ornery that way, I suppose 😉  We’ll see what happens next weekend!

I also put in the first stitches on January’s Hands on Design “Year in Chalk”  this morning.

January Year in Chalk

This is 30-ct WDW Gunmetal linen.  January calls for Chalk and Tropical Ocean GAST.

You may have noticed the increased use of QSnaps lately (or you may not – no worries).  While I still consider myself an “in-hand” stitcher primarily, the ‘snaps are definitely handy for linens and opening up the holes.

Getting old sucks.

WIP Wednesday

I spent the weekend away with a few friends and found time to make more progress on Part 1 of the Lizzie Kate Things Unseen Sampler.  The final installment arrived in the mail while I was gone so now I know what I’m working toward 🙂

Things Unseen

As for the Reading Challenge, I finished off Raging Heat (not counting it as I started it last year) and started my book for #29 – A book set somewhere you’ve always wanted to visit

I adore this series and excited to read Peter Grant’s latest adventure 🙂

Turtle Trot – January Update

Turtle Trot 2015

Yesterday was nonstop meetings and appointments, so no post.

However, no real stitching either, so even if I *had* posted, you’d see the same thing 😉

Only two pieces are seeing any action so far this month.

Mill Hill Wanda’s Witchery traveled to CA with me and lo and behold – had some progress!  Amazing how that happens.  I added the hat on the left:

Wanda's Witchery
Lizzie*Kate’s Mystery Sampler is staying home (linen + hotel lighting <> progress) but it’s moving along thanks to playoff football 😉
Lizzie*Kate Mystery
Off to add a bit more.  Enjoy your day!

Turtle Trot 2015

Turtle Trot 2015

One of the benefits of paying more attention to my blog is that I can participate in the fun little plans and challenges found on friend’s blogs 🙂

This one comes from my buddy, Suz and originates on BAP Attack.

Here are the 10 WIPs I would like to finish this year:

1 – Lizzie*Kate Mystery Sampler (Things Unseen) (New Year’s Day Start)

2 – Mirabilia New Year’s Fairy

3 – Mill Hill Wanda’s Witchery

4 – Ink Circles Round Mandala

5 – Hinzeit Dark Shadows

6 – Scarlett House Christmas at Holly House

7 – Hands On Designs Chalkboard Series (new start)

8 – Mill Hill Jim Shore Santa (new start)

9 – Little House Needlework Brave Hearts

10 – Glendon Place Plum Pudding

Not a bad list…. let’s see how it goes!

2015 – The Year Ahead

As a point of reference, here are just a few of the happenings from 2014:

  • Laid off (again)
  • Kitchen remodeled (yay!)
  • Hosted a get-together in AZ for a dozen friends
  • Landed permanent job as a consultant in July (requires weekly travel)
  • New car (VW Tiguan – cherry red!)
  • Phoenix Comicon and Fan Fest volunteer (awesome)

You are now caught up.   As you can imagine my “creating” time (stitching, quilting and knitting) was a bit more limited.  I did manage to finish off a few of each type of projects and I’m sure I’ll show them off in the coming months.

This year, I’m hoping for a little more consistency?  balance? predictability?  I’m not sure.  I do know that it would be lovely to have a year a little less stressful and full of change.  My schedule is busy, but not unmanageable.

That being said, the blog is part of my mitigation strategy.  A little planning, a little more focus and hopefully a lot less stress and an increase in positive results.

Here’s what is in store for the year:

2015 Reading Challenge – not that I need more reasons to read, but something fun to provide post fodder 😉

The WIP List – I will be updating the WIP List as I may have started a few things last year 😉  I’ll also be adding in quilting and knitting projects.

FMSPhotoADay – I’ve added my Instagram feed (azannette414) on the left which will show the photos based on the daily prompts provided.

I appreciate all that have found me again after my year+ break.  I wish you all a wondrous 2015!
