Vacation Finishes

It’s vacation time!  I have been off work this week and simply enjoying the time at home to catch up on some tv shows, stitch and sew a bit and just take each day without a lot of structure and “must do” items (well, other than lunch with a friend on Wednesday and the standard Thanksgiving cooking extravaganza).

Finished the 2013 Lizzie Kate Hearts and Holly mystery:

This is on 32-ct Belfast Doubloon (PTP) using DMC threads.  The only small change was adding a few petite white pearl beads in the snowflake centers and around the trees on the left.

Worked up a felt needlebook:

This is from a Lumenaris kit.  I’m down to my last two!  I will need to restock in January at the annual quilt/craft fair.

In addition to Thanksgiving, Thursday was also my 16th wedding anniversary.  DH gave a lovely gift, as usual:

He’s a keeper 🙂

A Full Rich Day

Busy day…

Started with my biweekly nail appointment….

OPI Embarcadare-yaOPI Embarcadare-ya from the 2013 San Francisco collection

Visit to Costco (Starbucks Hot Cocoa mix is back!  Woohoo!)

Weekly groceries

And then…. something unusual.  A class at my local quilt store to make a large Zip It Project Bag:

zipbagThis is approximately 17″ wide by 18″ tall.  Yes, I was the only one in class using Halloween fabric 😉  It seemed the obvious choice with the black mesh.  That and I have a goodly amount of it in my stash to pick from.   The pattern has multiple sizes and I bought a fairly large roll of the mesh used, so I foresee many more bags in my future.

Tonight is equally exciting – catching up on Once Upon a Time and stitching.  Such a life!

Three for three…

When we last left our intrepid stitcher she was in the midst of a stressful week and found solace in a bit of needle and thread and three new starts…..

Hey, it’s cheaper than therapy.

Happily, the three starts have become three finishes.

Lizzie*Kate Holly and Hearts Mystery – Part 2

DMC on PTP 32-ct Belfast Doubloon

Only one part left….

The next is more in keeping with the current season:

Primitive Hare’s Witch’s Kitchen – freebie found here
40-ct WDW linen (mystery color)
WDW Purple Majesty and Carrot  to add a bit of color

And the third….. will be revealed tomorrow!

Sunday Sunday…

I’m very very glad this week is over.

Since last Sunday I’ve spent more time in a dental chair than I care to acknowledge.  And I’ve got at least two more visits next week.  The good news is that the current pain level has decreased and at the end of it all, should be eliminated.

But it’s a painful journey to get there.

Other than a few more hexes, not much more on the stitching front.  Trying to do too much while knocking back the odd pain killer is just an open frog invitation.

I picked out the next Sulky project:

It’ll get started sometime soon 🙂

The next part of the Lizzie*Kate Hearts and Holly 2013 Mystery has come out…

I’ve made a start today. I very much like the Dickens feel.

That’s it for me. Anything interesting for your Sunday stitching?

Sunday Swap – 10/6/2013

Good news:

I finished my Sulky experiment:

Attractive Opposites

Ink Circles Attractive Opposites (one of them)
32-ct Sage Jobelan
One strand Sulky 12-wt Blendables Merlot Blush

The verdict? I was thisclose to pulling out some 32 or 35 ct linen for Rosetta or Cirque de Cercles.  The thread was very easy to work with and has great coverage on the 32-ct fabric.  I love being able to simply cut off a length off the spool, thread a needle and be ready to go.  It’s also washable and colorfast which is a great thing when you’ve invested that much time and money into a project.

Not-so-Good News:

I did manage a bit more on Sleepy Hollow and added a few dozen stitches to Widow Black’s B&B.  Neither could hold my attention, though, as I was working on the Ink Circles piece.  It’s been a bit of a stressful week, so the simplicity of one color and a repetitive design was quite soothing.

I’ve no idea what I’m going to pick up this week.  Knit?  More x’s?  Back to Stars?  Don’t make me decide right now…

Sunday Swap – 9/29/2013

Even with the late start this week, I did manage to finish a few more hexes (Row 5 and beginning of Row 6)

Row 6 introduces a new fabric (thank heaven) and there will be much rejoicing when we move on to a new color….. here’s the finished pic

I was struck with an idea last week when I posted the Thursday Thirteen.  Thanks to some DVR/Schedule craziness, we missed the regular showing of Sleepy Hollow on Monday night.  Thankfully, Fox reran the episode on Friday.  It seemed a perfect opportunity to follow thru with my idea, so I quickly pulled out design, fabric and as much of the floss as I could (easily 3/4 of the DMC in the stash).  I spent time measuring and cutting fabric and tagging a few of the flosses, but I managed a respectable hour or so of stitching on the horse’s flank area.

I’ll pick it up again when we watch this week’s episode.  It will be slow going but progress is progress.

The other idea lurking in the back of my head was based on a recent post by Tracy at Ink Circles.  She shared a critique of a new thread – new to her, not new to the world (Sulking or Sulky-ing).  I had hoped to find a color or two on the quilt shop hop, but sadly, none of the shops I visited carried this particular type of Sulky.  A quick online search and I found a source: Red Rock Threads.  A few days and a few dollars later, I had several colors to try.

This is Merlot Blush on 32-ct Sage Jobelan (Ink Circles Attractive Opposites design):

For any future monochromatic designs, I will *definitely* consider this thread.  Per Tracy, a 300m spool will do one of her Circes de… designs (equivalent of 12-13 skeins of DMC using 2-strands).   I may have bought a couple colors with those in mind 😉

This week I’m headed back to Widow Black’s B&B (with a side trip to Sleepy Hollow one night).  See you next Sunday!

Sunday-ish Swap 9/24/2013

Yes, it’s Tuesday.

But I was soclose to finishing the first part of the new Lizzie*Kate 2013 Mystery Sampler “Holly and Hearts” that I had to delay.  Here’s the completed Part 1:

Fabric: Picture this Plus Doubloon (32-ct Belfast)

Fibers: DMC

Started: 9/15/2013

Part 1 Complete: 9/23/2013

Weeks and I have a rough history, so I chose to use DMC for this sampler and it made me much happier 🙂

Last year’s L*K Halloween Mystery included a handful of beads in each part.  None were charted for this one, but I’m going to add a few anyway.  In the tree band, there are a few individual stitches charted that I’ll bead instead and in the bottom snowflake band, I will add beads to the centers.

Speaking of that band… there’s a small error in the chart:

In the far right snowflake, the center line should have an extra stitch to make him match his brethren in the row.  I didn’t notice until after I had finished the band, so mine will continue to be unique, but thought I would bring it to your attention if you prefer symmetry.

For the remainder of this week, I’m picking up my hexes:

Tula Pink’s Hex on the Beach 😉

Sunday Swap – 9/15/2013

Welcome to this week’s Sunday Swap 🙂

For reference – here’s last week’s starting point.

I completed Ava Gardner this week along with the overdye portion of the outer border:

Stars for a New Millennium

(click to biggify)  Given I was gone for 48 hours on a business trip, I wasn’t sure if I was going to get the square completed this week let alone any border!  Ava moved along pretty quickly.

And a closeup for Ms. Gardner…

This square included jessica stitches – a first in the piece. I like this one.

I also like the use of the overdye in this square.  I was initially concerned with the greens in the corners, but it all balances out with the overdye.

I just need to trust Tony (Minieri – the designer).  😉

This week’s piece is a late entrant to the stash.  I picked it up yesterday at Attic 🙂

Lizzie Kate 2013 Mystery

This is the new Holly & Hearts Mystery Sampler from Lizzie*Kate.

Fabric is Picture this Plus Doubloon. Fibers are DMC (I avoid Weeks Dye Works if at all possible – hate stitching with it).

I started this last night.  I’d finished Ava’s square and some border and rather than start something else, I went ahead and started.  I shouldn’t have.  All of this will be ripped out and restitched today… about 3/4″ to the left.  I debated last night whether to cut for 2″ or 3″ margins.  I settled on 2.5″.  Or thought I did.  I actually cut the piece for 2.5″ on the vertical and 2″ on the horizontal but started 2.5″ in….which leaves a bit too little on the right.

Luckily, this was only a couple hours work and thanks to a full slate of baseball and football today I’ll be able to restitch this bit and then some 🙂

If I finish this first part of the mystery before the end of the week, I’ll have an early Sunday.  Next week is quilting week!
