February Catchup

Even though February is a short month, it sure seems to go by at lightning speed.

I did manage a bit of stitching – it’s still the go-to stress reliever, after all.  And I certainly have my share of stress lately.

Anyone… on to the update!

Only one WIPocalypse piece saw any action this month.

Another 10 hours on Rosemarkie.  Based on the difference from the last update, I’m guessing another 30 hours will see this complete.

Theme-a-licious: Figural February

  • Bluebell – up to 30 hours now

  • Secret Ultimate Fan Girl Project – Firefly design.  Bookmark finishing planned.  If you would like to stitch your own (or any of the other geeky patterns available), go see weelittlestitches on Etsy.
  • Cackle – kitted while in Vegas this month

(It’s not really that blurry…)

Star Gazing

I would like you to meet Marlon Brando…

He’s awfully dashing… even though those small white triangles were a royal pain in the arse.

I added a bit more sashing and extended the side borders down in this round.

As much as I love working on this piece, my fingers are so sore from working with the larger needles and canvas!  Ten hours is about all I can manage before I need a break.

Checking in..

Apologies for the “radio silent” mode, but we’ve been hit by a couple stressful events* here at The Acre.

I did indulge in a bit of retail therapy last night, though.

  • Faery Queene Sampler – Scarlet Letter
  • Blue Jeans & Daisies (Part 1) – Blue Ribbon Designs
  • A Red Cottage – Plum Street Samplers
  • Let Love Bloom – Country Cottage Needleworks

I’ve been debating this latest mystery sampler, but well, what can I say?  Fabric is coming next week (35-ct blue jeans) and this time I’m going to do it in DMC.

I’m indulging in a hermit-style stitching weekend and have been working on the next square of my Stars for a New Millennium and may have started another small, fun piece…

I have definite plans for this one which I will share…if you would like to stitch your own, head over to weelittlestitches on etsy.  There’s even a sale going on right now (thru 2/8) 🙂

*while I’m sure some of you may be wanting to provide good thoughts, prayers, etc, I’m not quite comfortable putting the details of these latest challenges out for the world.  I will say it’s not life-threatening or health-related and I do expect everything to work out for the best.  It’s just going to be a few rough weeks until we get there.

January & February Theme-a-licious Update

Can you believe January is gone?!?  I swear, the months and years just fly by so much faster as I get older.

Oh wait… that is actually the case!  At least, the perception of time 😉

But on to the update!

The plans were pretty simple.  Two new starts:

Bluebell by Mirabilia – this is 20 hours total:

(Fabric is white… someday I will get home before dark to get a good pic…)

Sampler Aux Bouquets (Part 2) by Jardin Prive (10 hours):

Antique White Newcastle (40-ct) with Crescent Colors

And now for the BONUS!

A bit more on Christmastide at Holly House by The Scarlett House:

I’ve still got a couple hours to go on this, so I will get pretty close to having all the grout done on this quadrant.

Figural February

Who are the people in your neighborhood…your WIP neighborhood, that is? Give your people-populated projects some face time this month.

Woot!  Another easy month:

  • Bluebell (duh)
  • Marlon Brando (Stars for the New Millennium)
  • Secret Ultimate Fan Girl Project (which has a number of figures on it) – details in a couple days.  Watch this space!!
  • Cackle – kitted while in Vegas this month

2013 – Finish #3

Another small for DH completed:

Mill Hill Baseball Mitt

I’ve since added felt backing and the magnet to finish-finish it.

That’s the third finish for 2013 and all now in DH’s possession…. hmmm.  I think the next one needs to be for me! LOL

Home Again

I’m back from Las Vegas and a good time was had by all.  What else can you say when you have a weekend filled with stitching, shopping (both needlework and quilting), great friends, good food, gambling, cute EMTs and a dash of Magic Mike?  LOL

I did manage to get a bit of stitching done…

DH was happy to add this to his collection 😉

I also picked up this year’s ort glass:

I’m thinking I’ve created a new annual tradition 😉

Star(s) Watching

The next 10 hour slot complete is on Stars for a New Millennium:

Vivien (on the right) joins Marilyn (left) and Clark (center).  You can see the beginnings of Marlon Brando, too.

I’m very glad I added this design to my rotation.  I can get a lot done in 10 hours and I love how it’s coming together!

Progress and a First 2013 Finish

I’ve finished off two more rotation slots:

The Scarlett House’s Christmastide at Holly House:

I added the roof, the apple basket and two trees with this 10 hour block.

And my first DH Small finish:  Edinburgh Castle from Textile Heritage

Don’t let the small size fool you (like it did me).  This little baby took 11.5 hours to complete.

I’m about halfway thru my next slot… 🙂

January Plans

I realized today I didn’t share my plans for 2013 beyond the WIPocalypse and Theme-a-licious posts.

Granted, that does make up the bulk of my stitching plans, but I do have a few other things to work in.

As in 2012, I’m starting the year with 10-hr rotation.  I have six “slots” identified to work thru for the first round and will be working them in no set order.  I also work two slots in parallel thanks to having two timers 😉  I think that approach alone is what kept the rotation going as long as it did last year!

  • Rosemarkie by Long Dog Samplers
  • Bluebell by Mirabilia (new start – SAL)
  • Christmastide at Holly House by The Scarlett House
  • Sampler Aux Bouquets by Jardin Prive (new start – SAL)
  • Stars for the New Millennium (SAL)
  • DH’s Smalls

The last item is a result of DH asking for a few small pieces for his cube at work.  He has his penguin from last year, but he needed a few more items.  I pulled out a dozen options from my “smalls” bucket (and could have pulled many many more) and he narrowed it down to six which I will work thru in that last slot.  None should be 10 hours, so it will pretty much assure at least one finish per round!

I’m hoping to finish at least two rounds of the above this month.  Given the first two items are WIPocalypse pieces and the first four meet the Theme criteria (Garden or Flower designs) for this month, I’m starting off pretty well!

As of today, I’ve completed 10 hours on Rosemarkie:

…and the first 10 hours on Bluebell (she’s on white Belfast linen):

I’ve also gotten DH’s first small going.  It’s Edinburgh Castle from Textile Heritage:

2012 – The Stitching Year in Review

As noted earlier, the WIPocalypse was a definite success and allowed me to make great inroads on the WIP pile!

I started 2012 with 47 (!!) WIPs and finished 14 of them.

This includes a couple in the last week while on vacation:

Mary Garry’s Sew & Sew – on white 25-ct evenweave, 1-over-1 with DMC & GAST threads.

Textile Heritage’s Tower of London

I also started & finished an additional 13 pieces for a total of 27 cross stitch finishes.  I have six pieces that I started this year and are being carried over 😉

I did a bit of knitting this year, finishing 11 pieces.

One wool sewing project was also completed..a pocket for my new lucet 🙂

That’s a grand total of 39 finishes for 2012!

Taking into account the finishes, new starts and a half-dozen pieces that are going to be relegated to the “retired” drawer, I’m starting 2013 with 32 WIPs.

My goal of having fewer at the end of 2012 than at the beginning?  DONE!
