September WIPocalypse – Let’s Dance!

My timing is perfect for this month’s WIPocalypse post!  I have TWO…yes, TWO Happy Dances to share!  And both from the WIPocalypse list :)

First – my long neglected Mirabilia Round Robin from 2011.  It came home needing only Queen Mermaid stitched.

You would think I could get right on that, yes?  Unfortunately, this makes the *third* time I have stitched QM on a Mira RR and I can definitively state I will never stitch the whole piece.  I did change her beads a bit to be ornery, but now that it’s all done, I’m so glad she’s there :)

The mermaids are stitched on Star Sapphire Jobelan and the borders were done in SNC’s Warlock Road.

For the second finish…. Little House Needleworks Sea to Shining Sea:

I was drawn to this design for the palm tree and saguaro cactus there on the left and once *those* were done, it languished in the WIP pile until this year.  It’s stitched on natural Belfast linen with the Crescent silks included with each of the designs.  (this is pre-Belle Soie).

The only intentional change I made is for those little white dots in the center panel.  I used white MH beads rather than doing individual stitches.  I hate “rogue” stitches ;)  There are some unintentional changes (especially in this panel… the frogs live in that river, I swear) but nothing too obvious, I hope.

That’s two items off the list!!  Woot!!

Also making fine progress on my L*K Mystery Sampler….

Only the last part to do and it’s my favorite of the three!

Theme-a-licious…and More!

May was a crazy month here as recently related.  The month ended on a positive note with a very good interview for DH… I am very optimistic a job offer will materialize early next week and it will be A Very Good Thing!!!  Of course, that will almost guarantee a crazy June as habits and schedules will need to be reevaluated in the house, but I will embrace that given the cause :D

My May Memories plan were good… I did manage to resurrect one very good class memory from last year’s Chocolat class.  (Yes, I linked to someone else’s post… it was a low point for last year’s blogging, what can I say?)  The little containers were a quick stitching and finishing…umm…finish.

I did have another half-finish (click to BIGgify…really, it’s huge):

Kylie found this on our recent stop at Silver Needle.  She did the floss bits and I added the beads and assembled.  Just need to add the magnet on the back and it will live on the fridge :)  The penguin has a bit of significance here… that’s how Kylie refers to DH ;)  And depending on his mood, he may be a “Zombie Penguin” LOL

I made progress on my Mirabilia Mermaid RR square.  Only one rotation slot left will finish her off:

She looks lovely in with her mermaid sisters…. can’t wait to show off the whole thing!

That’s it for my May Memories stitching. Two other bits of progress:

Hitchhiker is growing:

Plum Pudding is….expanding(?):

I’ve worked up to the top edge and started moving to the upper left corner.  22 hours total here.

On to June plans!

Jumanji June

Is it a jungle out there in your stash? Give some love to the projects with animals or birds.

My WIPocalypse list doesn’t have a huge animal selection, but I will pull out Masquerade for Rotation Round 5 (still have three pieces to hit to finish off Round 4) and may pull another WIP out of the stash to add in that fits the June theme once the Mira RR is complete.

TUSAL Plus!

Two posts in one day… wow.

Don’t look for this to happen again any time soon!

Catching up on my blog reading, I realized it’s time for a TUSAL post.  But first, I must share the Mirabilia Round Robin I finished about an hour ago…

This is Mirabilia’s Christmas Elegance in a shadowbox style.  I filled in the lower left corner.  She is gorgeous!

Ok, time for the TUSAL jar….

Yes, this is a multi-purpose picture.

You see my TUSAL jar there.  Well, there’s a lot of green on the top from Christmas Elegance, but I won’t be detailing the other colors quite yet ;)

In the foreground, you see what I was hoping to be one of my next two starts (yes Kelly, Venice will get some stitches this week).  However, I’m not loving the floss on the fabric….

How about a closer look?

Yeah… just not liking that combination.  I was going for something similar to PS Christmas Eve I did a couple years ago:

The colors for Santa’s Night look a bit washed out compared to these.  Hmmm.

I’m seeing two options here:

  • Change floss colors to “cooler” versions to match the grey/purple/blue Thunderstorm linen better.
  • Go for darker fabric that works better with called for floss colors (white/355/646/830/841/3362).

Thoughts?

Weekend Successes…and Not

I spent Sunday afternoon at Downton Abbey (thank you, Netflix), finishing up this lovely Faerie:

Mirabilia RR – 2011

Kathy’s RR – Faerie Treasures

This was the best part of the weekend…. the worst part happened on Saturday night.  Kids and I watched Sorceror’s Apprentice (not bad…we liked it) and after the coda finished we heard snap and crackle from our 50″ plasma TV.

Not a good sound.

The TV is about seven years old and we’ve had a couple issues with it previously (under warranty….though it was a struggle and took months to get it fixed) so we weren’t too horribly surprised with the latest.

Our lovely TV now has a 1″ x 15″ black line down the center of the picture.  It’s like watching a move from a seat with a pole in front of it.  Well, one that doesn’t reach the ground…..

TV shopping and evaluation has begun.  DH went out Sunday for some initial scouting and we’ll be headed out with an Intent To Purchase here shortly.

Is this thing on?

Yes, I made it safely home from NYC.

Took me a few days to thaw out, though.  Hopefully the next trip will be made during warmer weather.

Valentine’s Day was a wonderful success:

On the left: Pine Mountain February pillow (stitched for DH).
On the right: Diamond and amethyst earrings (for me).

Since that finish, I’ve made a good start on the first round of the latest Mirabilia RR.  This is Kathy’s piece:

The design is Faerie Treasures, if you don’t recognize it :)

I have made progress on my latest pair of socks as well:

I’m moderately concerned with the amount of remaining yarn and the knitting left to do.  I guess the only way to know for sure is to keep going (in absence of a scale or other logical validation methods).

Mom gave me a lovely new pair of Dinky Dyes scissors and a fob as a congratulatory gift on my recent promotion:

And then we hit Market Day at the LNS….. I brought home a few things:

  • Blackbird Designs – A Stitcher’s Journey
  • Shakespeare’s Peddler – Jenny Bean’s Creation Sampler (and fabric and floss)
  • Praiseworthy Stitches – Wonderfully Wicked Whimsies

  • Ink Circles – Fireweed kit
  • Ink Circles – Just Rosy
  • Lizzie Kate – Flora McSample Stitch Lesson Sampler
  • Shepherd’s Bush – Hold Hope (box on order)
  • Mill Hill – Tuscan Cottage (didn’t come out at market, it just jumped in the pile.  Really.)

That should keep me busy for awhile, eh?

Weekend Stitching

Finished stitching boxes for the upcoming Mirabilia RR:

  • Fabric: 32-ct Star Sapphire Jobelan
  • Thread: Silk N Color’s Warlock Road

I’ve dictated the boxes this time….

I’ll be sending chart bits along…

I also worked on Mill Hill Winter Wonderland kit (started in Dec 2010)

I did add a few more x’s before the weekend was done, so it’s coming along.

All accomplished with IronMan 2, A-Team (original series and last year’s movie) and a half dozen episodes of Mad Men Season 2.

Gotta love long weekends!
