Theme-a-licious Update (Nov/Dec)

While I didn’t state my plans for November, I fully embraced the “Nail It November” theme and managed 2.9 finishes.

Yes.  Two point nine.

The two finishes are Masquerade and Lilac Fairy as noted in my last WIPocalypse post.

As of Friday, November 30, I had Sunflower Fairy 95% completed.

She was missing only the golden beads… which I completed on Saturday (12/1), thus the 2.9 for November 😉

For December’s theme…. I’m hoping to finish Mill Hill’s Winter Wonderland (a pre-2012 WIP) and The Scarlett House’s Christmastide.  We shall see how I do 🙂

WIPocalypse and Theme-a-licious Updates

So this is going to be pretty easy….

WIPocalypse was a big fat ZERO for this full moon.  That’s right, I didn’t touch a single item on my original list.

Theme-a-licious was a bit more productive.  Here was the Olympic plan:

Flying Needles (Knitting)

Bronze:  Finish Matthias Scarf  – Yes!
Silver: Finish Multnomah Shawl – Yes!
Gold: Finish K’s socks  – Progressed to about 8″ on the first sock…

Flashing Needles (Stitching)

Bronze: Finish one Retreat Project  – Yup!
Silver: Caught up on Lizzie*Kate Halloween Mystery  – Finished part 1 and started 2.
Gold: Finish three items from WIPocalypse List – HA!

Speedy Needles (Quilting)

Bronze: Cut/Assemble background for first Sweetheart House block – Shouldn’t left this at “cut”
Silver:  Finish first Sweetheart block (appliqué) – ummm…no
Gold: Bind Witchie Quilt – HA!  Oh sometimes I crack myself up…

Based on the above, I’ve earned two Bronze and one Silver (see previous post for details).

  • Bronze: Finish Matthias Scarf
  • Silver: Finish Multnomah Shawl
  • Bronze: Finish one Retreat project (I finished two, but I’m only counting for one medal ;))

According to the last Olympics, I can proudly fly the Belgium Flag with these results 🙂

September plans…

September Smalls

We all love gadgets, and none better than the teensy tools and holders we make ourselves. Let’s stitch some smalls–needlebooks, fobs, biscornus, scissors keeps, pincushions–or knit some teensy things–amigurumi, jewelry, sachets….

Woot!  I got this one covered!  The next retreat project I’m working on is a scissor fob and pincushion and I will pull out a couple of the smaller items from the WIPocalypse list 🙂  And if I am very ambitious, I’ll get the L*K Mystery Sampler done.  Here’s where I’m at…

Totally doable, right??

Theme-a-licious August

Altius August

Embrace the Olympic motto–Citius, Altius, Fortius (Faster, Higher, Stronger)–by elevating your mind.  It’s the perfect time to learn something new!  Or maybe achieve some goals…

I’m borrowing from our favorite Themer, Ms. Heather and creating events for this month’s goals.  Note:  the timeline for this is August 1-31st.  No two week craziness!

Presenting the Five-MultiColor-Rings-of-Goal-Achievement!

I know, it doesn’t have quite the same ring, but we don’t want any cease and desist letters…

Flying Needles (Knitting)

Bronze:  Finish Matthias Scarf (currently half way on #10 needles)
Silver: Finish Multnomah Shawl [Camp Loopy Project 3]

(the grey is for the wavy section at the bottom)

Gold: Finish K’s socks (currently about 3″ from the toe up)

Flashing Needles (Stitching)

Bronze: Finish one Retreat Project (Attic Summer Sampler Soiree)
Silver: Caught up on Lizzie*Kate Halloween Mystery (at least thru part 2)
Gold: Finish three items from WIPocalypse List

Speedy Needles (Quilting)

Bronze: Cut/Assemble background for first Sweetheart House block
Silver:  Finish first Sweetheart block (appliqué)
Gold: Bind Witchie Quilt

Let the stitching begin!

Perfect Storm

Yikes… when I signed up for the WIPocalypse and Theme-a-licious posts, I was kinda hoping to have at least *two* posts per month.  Not have them both hit on the same day… yikes.

Old Business

The penguin is off to Nicole!  Can’t wait to see him stitched up 🙂

One more item off the list…

Not bad for restarting him this month 🙂

For July – holidays were the theme.  In addition to the Christmas-y charmer above, I started the Lizzie*Kate Halloween Mystery.

Because… well… I could.  And Halloween is my very favorite holiday 🙂

(sorry for the blurry pic… yikes)

August plans tomorrow….

How Time Flies – June Theme-alicious

We’re halfway thru 2012.  Can you believe it?  I cannot…

My weekend away was quite good.  It’s always nice to spend a couple days shopping and chatting with friends from across the country.  I managed to start Mirabilia’s Sunflower Fairy and the resounding agreement was to use Pampas.  Pictures soon…

I finished my Camp Loopy project – Hitchhiker and a picture will appear after it finds its way to its new home.  Second Camp Loopy project is moving along, though I have to admit choosing to do a triangle shawl in worsted wool in a Phoenix summer was probably not my best thought.  Should have stuck with lace weight.

For June, Heather’s Theme-alicious called for animals.

Interestingly, I managed to hit the theme on a couple of occasions without really trying.  I worked on Sea to Shining Sea and found fish in the river of the center house.  I started Betsy by Sheepish Designs and found sheep.  I picked up July Sings by Bent Creek (the last month I need to finish off the full set of monthly Snappers) and three birds are the center of the design.

And here I thought I was short on animal designs.

July is devoted to holidays.  I left the timers at home while I was away, so I’ll be starting Round Five of my 2012 Rotation tomorrow, July 1st.  A mix of WIPocalypse pieces, new starts and old WIPs:

In no particular order….

  • Betsy by Sheepish Designs (holiday – Independence Day)
  • Sunflower Fairy by Mirabilia
  • Snow Charmer from Mill Hill (holiday – Christmas)
  • Lilac Pixie by Mirabila (WIPocalypse)
  • June Cottage – LHN (WIPocalypse)

And knitting like the wind for Camp Loopy 🙂  Gotta finish by July 27!

Theme-a-licious…and More!

May was a crazy month here as recently related.  The month ended on a positive note with a very good interview for DH… I am very optimistic a job offer will materialize early next week and it will be A Very Good Thing!!!  Of course, that will almost guarantee a crazy June as habits and schedules will need to be reevaluated in the house, but I will embrace that given the cause 😀

My May Memories plan were good… I did manage to resurrect one very good class memory from last year’s Chocolat class.  (Yes, I linked to someone else’s post… it was a low point for last year’s blogging, what can I say?)  The little containers were a quick stitching and finishing…umm…finish.

I did have another half-finish (click to BIGgify…really, it’s huge):

Kylie found this on our recent stop at Silver Needle.  She did the floss bits and I added the beads and assembled.  Just need to add the magnet on the back and it will live on the fridge 🙂  The penguin has a bit of significance here… that’s how Kylie refers to DH 😉  And depending on his mood, he may be a “Zombie Penguin” LOL

I made progress on my Mirabilia Mermaid RR square.  Only one rotation slot left will finish her off:

She looks lovely in with her mermaid sisters…. can’t wait to show off the whole thing!

That’s it for my May Memories stitching. Two other bits of progress:

Hitchhiker is growing:

Plum Pudding is….expanding(?):

I’ve worked up to the top edge and started moving to the upper left corner.  22 hours total here.

On to June plans!

Jumanji June

Is it a jungle out there in your stash? Give some love to the projects with animals or birds.

My WIPocalypse list doesn’t have a huge animal selection, but I will pull out Masquerade for Rotation Round 5 (still have three pieces to hit to finish off Round 4) and may pull another WIP out of the stash to add in that fits the June theme once the Mira RR is complete.

A Gift and a Finish

My dear daughter ordered my Mother’s Day gift about two weeks ago (Mother’s Day was one week ago).  It arrived today:

Can’t see the logos?  How about this…

It’s an Avengers bracelet with Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and Captain America logos.  I LOVE IT.

I only used three (of ten) rotation hours to finish the Haunted House piece this week.  So, in the spirit of “May Memories” I dug out a small kit that I purchased last year when I attended a class with Jackie DuPlessis called “Containers.”  I finished the stitching in just a couple hours and did the finishing today.

Not my most elegant finishing, but these two are staying home with me, and I must admit, I’m much less picky about stuff I keep! LOL.  The same design is stitched on both tops… the one on the left is over-1 and on the right over-2.

The larger container is a LockUp which I’ve never seen before.  These are very cool!  They’d be great for buttons, pins, charms, etc.

Theme-a-licious April Wrapup and May Plans

I hate to admit this, but I failed miserably in Amazon April.

I managed to put about 4.5 hours in on Spring Queen, but Greek Mandala didn’t see the light of day.  No excuses other than my stitcher ADD rearing its head after being kept under control for three months.

May Memories

Remember when you took that class?  Or decided to commemorate that event?  And then abandoned your poor WIP? Take a stroll down memory lane by working on it again.

For May I’m going to take a slightly different take.  I’m going to stick with my 4-slot rotation but when the MH Haunted House is complete, I’ll replace that slot with some of the myriad of tiny kits that I’ve picked up over the years at various stitching shows, etc.  I have a slew of “Make It Take It” kits and freebies that will not only satisfy a bit of a startitis urge I feel building but also bring back some cherished memories from trips past 🙂

Theme-a-licious: March Wrapup and April Plans

Wow.. March just FLEW by! Of course, I had a TON of stuff going on during the month, so I’m sure that had a little to do with it as well.

Lovely new ceiling fans were installed…. (Hunter Fans – Stratford style)

New tile floors and new baseboards along with freshly painted walls (the walls are a very pale mint green here… trust me)

In all this madness (see? Theme reference!) I did find time to get a few hours in and even finished off the Mill Hill piece! Can you guess what WIP I took this crap-tastic photo of yesterday?  Tilt your head a bit to the left… it may help.  Or not.

If you said Ink Circles’ Masquerade, you would be spot on! I’m sure Tracy is cringing at this truly horrid WIP shot. Please forgive me… glamour shots after the next rotation slot, I *swear*.

So what are the plans for Amazon April?  Now that I’ve finished off three WIPs from my WIPocalypse list, I’m left with a good bit of time between now and the next finish.  Hey, I got the low-hanging fruit done for the most part, what can I say?

I’ve got one slot left in the current rotation round (L’Epoch Nouveau, not a small piece itself) and then I’ll be adding Spring Queen and Greek Mandala (a true Amazon piece!) in for my third trip down the WIPocalypse List this year.

This week, though, I’m traveling for work and I’ll be taking knitting with me for what I expect will be very few needle opportunities.  Three days of all day meetings, three dinner meetings and two full days of traveling will make for a less-than-productive stitcher, I’m afraid.  At least I’ve got a good pair of socks on the needles to keep me company 🙂

February/March Theme-a-licious

Fangirl February

I had a plan for February.  It was a good one, too.  And truth be told, I stuck to it fairly well.

I did work on the Mill Hill Toy Store and the Dimples Designs L’Epoch Nouveau.  I also worked on TW’s Dragon Ride which was a last minute substitution in honor of the Year of the Dragon:

Where I started:

And 10 hours later my dragon had more wing and a start of a neck:

I also realized why this WIP hasn’t seen a needle for awhile.  As you may notice, I customized the border, using two overdyes rather than the original charted colors.  The more of the dragon I add, the less I like the result 🙁  So my next 10 hours will probably be spent frogging out the border and starting to restitch it.  I’ll be happier in the end and it will certainly encourage me to finish this year.

Next on the Fangirl list was Ink Circles Masquerade.

Where I started:

And 10 hours later….

Not too shabby!

And then it was off to Liberty Lane by Country Cottage Needleworks.  Happily, I can report that the piece is finished!!  Sadly, I must report I have no picture to share as it’s still a wrinkle-fest and I have yet to introduce LL to my iron.  Soon…

At that point, Fangirl February lost steam.  I have put in a few hours on Sea to Shining Sea (finished the words on the bottom!) but not enough for a picture.  Why the slow down?  Well, I’ve been sucked into a bit of home remodeling.  That commenced last week with a very nice gentlemen coming in to paint the interior of the house.  It will continue next week when a couple of new gentlemen will be laying new tile (the sample is peeking from behind the Masquerade pic up there) and new wood floors (here’s my stitch log on the floor sample):

After *that* we have a nice electrician coming to install new ceiling fans in all of our rooms (except the two bathrooms) and finally the man that started it all, the painter, will be back to finish off trim and baseboards.

And did I mention the new couch, loveseat and bedroom furniture will be arriving mid April?  Oh, and that Friday our plasma TV will finally be hung on the wall in the living room by two other perfectly pleasant young men?

So, I’m sure you can appreciate why my stitching hours have *drastically* reduced in the last week.  And probably won’t pick up again for at least two more weeks…..

March Madness

Stitch or knit on something different every day…it’s madness…of the funnest possible kind.

Yeah.. something tells me if I get to stitch on *anything* this month it will be a mad miracle.
