Grow Your Blog – Welcome!

I stumbled across this on Terri‘s blog and thought….why not?

Welcome to new visitors!

You’ve landed in my little corner of the web.  I have been blogging for about nine years sharing bits and pieces of my hobbies and the odd dog picture.

I am forty-something, married to a marvelous man and have two kids that are aging *much* faster than I am 😉  My daughter, K, will graduate from Arizona State University this spring and my son, Z, started high school last fall.  We’ve got three miniature schnauzers: Greta, Nero & Duchess and have lived in Mesa, Arizona for 15+ years.  My husband and I both work for a large financial services firm here in Phoenix.  We don’t leave home without it 😉

Hobby-wise you’ll find a lot of cross-stitching, a little knitting, counted canvas (very recent), chain mail (also pretty recent) and someday wool applique and quilting.  I have plenty of stash, but not enough time or space right now to get those last two going.

I’m also a big reader and enjoy tv shows and movies.  There’s some fun widgets on the sidebar there that will give you an idea of what captures my interest!

Today I happen to be off to a get-together out of town, but I’m looking forward to visiting other blogs when get home.

You are welcome to come in and explore!

Oh!  Almost forgot…. a “Welcome Giveaway”

Comment on this post to receive a hand-made chain mail bracelet remarkably similar to this one:

Similar to this… not this exact one 😉

Leave a comment on this post and I will choose a winner on February 1st 🙂  Anyone can enter!

2012 – Reduction

Looking back on 2012, it dawned on me today that there has been one theme prevalent for the year… both in the good and the bad.

Reduction

In the positive aspect:

  • I’ve reduced my weight by 65 pounds from this same time last year
  • I’ve reduced my stitching works in progress by 15 (largest drop since I’ve been stitching, I think)
  • Definite stress reduction in the family with DH employed this year in a great opportunity

In the negative aspect:

My family has reduced by three important members.  I lost my maternal grandmother (my Granny) in January, Kylie lost her paternal grandmother in May (my former mother-in-law) and I lost my father-in-law in October (a wonderful man).

I reduced my blogging and online presence – not intentionally, it just snuck up on me.  Of course, I’ve done more posting in the last two days than I have in the last few weeks, so maybe it’s a temporary state 🙂

Of course, there have been other highlights for the year.  A couple stitching trips and time spent with good friends both here and in other states.

My dear husband now has six months in his new job and is doing well.  I’m terribly proud of him.

A lovely new red car 😉  A gorgeous tile floor and new furniture.

Here’s hoping 2013 has just as much good to offer… and maybe a little less bad.

WIPocalypse 2012 Results

2012 was a great stitching year thanks in large part to the WIPocalypse 🙂

Who knew those crazy, lazy Mayans could have such an impact all these years later?

Of the original thirteen WIPs on the WIPocalypse list, I finished eight of them!

  • A Good Marriage – Lizzie*Kate: Completed 1/12/2012
  • Mermaid Round Robin – Mirabilia: Completed 9/28/2012
  • Liberty Lane – Country Cottage Needleworks: Completed 2/12/2012
  • Sea to Shining Sea – Little House Needleworks: Completed 9/26/2012
  • Lilac Pixie – Mirabilia: Completed 11/22/2012
  • Masquerade – Ink Circles: Completed 11/11/2012
  • Toy Store – Mill Hill: Completed 3/12/2012
  • Haunted House – Mill Hill: Completed 5/16/2012
Of the remaining items, I worked on all but one which is another accomplishment in and of itself!

I added eight more small WIPs and five of those are completed, too.

  • Snow Charmer – Mill Hill: Completed 7/6/2012
  • Goblins Welcome – Mill Hill: Completed 10/14/2012
  • Winter Wonderland – Mill Hill: Completed 12/9/2012
  • Sew & Sew – Mary Garry: Completed 12/22/2012
  • Tower of London – Textile Heritage: Completed 12/27/2012

Color me completely surprised 🙂

In the spirit of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it…” I have plans for 2013 WIPocalypse stitching… see the next post!

Balance

This weekend was a Holiday Craft and Sewing Fair and I made plans with my buddy Terri and my mom to wander the aisles and find more projects for the never ending to-do list.

Unfortunately, Mom had to cancel but Terri and I were determined.

We managed to arrive early in the show day and started down the first of the aisles.

It wasn’t long before my phone rang and I learned that my senior citizen hot water heater had gone to the appliance depot in the sky. It was 13 years old so it had a good long life.

Luckily, my dear husband had offered to do the grocery shop while I was off gallivanting and chose to come in the house thru the garage. The kids noticed water and the leak was found before it could do too much damage. It still flooded my pantry and wicked into the living room, but thanks to our new tile floor, the damage was limited.

We will enjoy the hum of industrial fans for a few days and have a few missing sections of drywall, but it could have been so much worse.

While the husband dealt with plumbers and such, I did manage to get a few fun things….

20121110-184823.jpg

Makings of a button bracelet, a peyote stitch needle case kit, beading mat, covered bead tray (the splurge of the day), a red/white Christmas wall hanging kit, a snowman table runner pattern and some great snowy fabric and a too-cute-to-resist chicken pin cushion 🙂

There were several other things I picked up and ultimately put down, but I’m happy with my spoils 🙂

Many of the vendors will return in January so I will have another chance. LOL

The Rest of the Story….

On Friday, October 26th, Mike and I travelled to the Chattanooga, TN area and spent the next five days with my mother-in-law and his sisters and their families and a large extended family.

My father-in-law lost his battle with liver disease on Wednesday, October 24th and we were there to mourn, support and help my dear MIL in absolutely any way we could.

While it certainly couldn’t be called a “fun” trip, it was good to spend time with my in-laws as we don’t get to visit all that often.  I am blessed with a wonderful family and after 15 years of marriage, I feel very close to them.  We had already arranged to go back for Christmas this year and there is nothing I am looking forward to more.

My FIL was the most kind and generous man I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and I am so very proud to say I was part of his family.

Today I’m back to work.  Back to reality.  Time marches on.

Attack of the Shoulds

I realized this week, that I am being overwhelmed by “shoulds”

You know… “I should do this…” or “I shouldn’t do that…”

I’d much rather deal with “I want to…”

Such is the life of an adult, eh?  Usually, I can balance the “shoulds” and leave plenty of opportunities for the “wants” to keep me happy.  Sadly, my balance is off right now, especially in the crafty area.

“I should work on my Camp Loopy project.  It must be done by the 26th!”

“I should finish this penguin… it’s a traveling project!” (he’s about half done…*should* see him finished this weekend)

“I should not be starting the new L*K Mystery sampler.  It’s not on the WIPocalypse list!”

“I should not be looking at sock patterns.  I should knit one I already have!”

“I should just work on my WIPocalypse and Themealicious stuff and ignore everything else” (HA!)

Combine that with the rest of my life…

“I should clean out my work email inbox.  Just deleting everything doesn’t count.”

“I should attend every status and requirements call for my new team so I can learn everything immediately”

“I should get up earlier/go to bed earlier/blog more/exercise more/etc..

I’m sure you can appreciate my predicament.

(Still making Weight Watchers progress… lest you think that has fallen by the wayside.  I predict another milestone post before month end)

So before the stitching mojo completely flies out the window (and the window is open, lemme tell ya), I’m going to abandon all previously posted plans and goals and just have a crazy free-for-all and see how it goes.

….after I get the Camp Loopy and traveling project done, of course.  Hey, I can’t completely ignore the basics!!
