March Madness Results

I created my own “sweet 16” list for March and I planned to spend two days on each or at least 5 hours, whatever worked out.

This was definitely the most ambitious plan I’d ever come up with for Heather’s annual March Madness.

I did manage to stitch every day.  I only left one piece with less than five hours added.  I also netted to the same number of WIPs I started with…  I had three new starts and three finishes (two of the new starts were completed).

Here’s what I worked on… (* new starts, # finishes)

For April we have

Amazon April

Dip your needle into the vast swath of fabric dedicated to your BIGGEST projects!

I’ve got a few options here…  Sometime this month I plan to pick up:

  • Mirabilia Spring Queen
  • Chatelaine Egyptian Garden (on 28-ct it is definitely the largest WIP!)
  • Stars for a New Millennium

March Madness – Another Update

Three more WIPs have been hit by this month’s madness…

#4 – Textile Heritage Fairytale Bookmark

Before & After (6 hours):

#5 – Hinzeit Dark Shadows

After (3.5 hours – busy couple of days).  I thought I had a before shot, but evidently not!  When I picked it up I had the “H” and the spider done, so not bad for the short time 🙂

#6 – Textile Heritage Welsh Farm (new start!)

Completed in 5.5 hours:

#7 – Primrose Needleworks LUV Letters

Before….

45 minutes in and I remember why I put it down.  There’s a border of GAST Buttermilk on the Magnolia 40-ct linen (part of it is already stitched above the “Letters”) and it’s like stitching white on white…. ugh.

March Madness – #2 and #3

#2 of 16 was a small Pine Mountain kit: America Spots

I started and finished on Sunday.  Total stitching: 7 hours (yes, it was a lazy lazy day).

#3 is Little House Needleworks Brave Hearts.  Haven’t touched this since January 2009 (yikes):

It’s on 40-ct linen (with one strand Belle Soie) and I remember thinking how tiny the stitches were and breaking out the magnifier to work on the flag.  Now, though, I don’t have any trouble!  Amazing how the stitching skills have improved over time.

Here we are 5.5 hours later:

The linen color in this pic is truer to reality.  You may be able to see the white silk in the top two windows.  I have at least one word (White) to stitch in that silk… I may have to outline it or something so it will show up.  It looks fine against other colors, but on its own blends in quite a bit.

On to #4….

March Madness – One down!

For my first bit of madness, I picked up TW’s Noah’s Ark.  According to my records, I haven’t touched this piece since sometime in early 2009.

Ouch.

Here’s where I started:

I thought I had far more done on the Ark scene, but evidently not.  I hate when my memory fails on my WIPs…don’t you?  LOL

After two days (approx 5.5 hours), I now have elephants on the left and a tiny bit more cloud (upper right corner).

Next up is a small new start… hopefully small enough to finish before the next post!

March Theme-a-licious

March Madness

Work on something different every day…it’s madness…of the funnest possible kind.

Well, I’m not *quite* that mad.  I’ve made a list of 16 pieces (includes a couple of new smalls).  To get thru them all, I’ll have to swap every other day.  In reality, I may do a little more or a little less 🙂

February Catchup

Even though February is a short month, it sure seems to go by at lightning speed.

I did manage a bit of stitching – it’s still the go-to stress reliever, after all.  And I certainly have my share of stress lately.

Anyone… on to the update!

WIPocalypse:

Only one WIPocalypse piece saw any action this month.

Another 10 hours on Rosemarkie.  Based on the difference from the last update, I’m guessing another 30 hours will see this complete.

Theme-a-licious: Figural February

  • Bluebell – up to 30 hours now

  • Secret Ultimate Fan Girl Project – Firefly design.  Bookmark finishing planned.  If you would like to stitch your own (or any of the other geeky patterns available), go see weelittlestitches on Etsy.
  • Cackle – kitted while in Vegas this month

(It’s not really that blurry…)

January & February Theme-a-licious Update

Can you believe January is gone?!?  I swear, the months and years just fly by so much faster as I get older.

Oh wait… that is actually the case!  At least, the perception of time 😉

But on to the update!

The plans were pretty simple.  Two new starts:

Bluebell by Mirabilia – this is 20 hours total:

(Fabric is white… someday I will get home before dark to get a good pic…)

Sampler Aux Bouquets (Part 2) by Jardin Prive (10 hours):

Antique White Newcastle (40-ct) with Crescent Colors

And now for the BONUS!

A bit more on Christmastide at Holly House by The Scarlett House:

I’ve still got a couple hours to go on this, so I will get pretty close to having all the grout done on this quadrant.

Figural February

Who are the people in your neighborhood…your WIP neighborhood, that is? Give your people-populated projects some face time this month.

Woot!  Another easy month:

  • Bluebell (duh)
  • Marlon Brando (Stars for the New Millennium)
  • Secret Ultimate Fan Girl Project (which has a number of figures on it) – details in a couple days.  Watch this space!!
  • Cackle – kitted while in Vegas this month

January Plans

I realized today I didn’t share my plans for 2013 beyond the WIPocalypse and Theme-a-licious posts.

Granted, that does make up the bulk of my stitching plans, but I do have a few other things to work in.

As in 2012, I’m starting the year with 10-hr rotation.  I have six “slots” identified to work thru for the first round and will be working them in no set order.  I also work two slots in parallel thanks to having two timers 😉  I think that approach alone is what kept the rotation going as long as it did last year!

  • Rosemarkie by Long Dog Samplers
  • Bluebell by Mirabilia (new start – SAL)
  • Christmastide at Holly House by The Scarlett House
  • Sampler Aux Bouquets by Jardin Prive (new start – SAL)
  • Stars for the New Millennium (SAL)
  • DH’s Smalls

The last item is a result of DH asking for a few small pieces for his cube at work.  He has his penguin from last year, but he needed a few more items.  I pulled out a dozen options from my “smalls” bucket (and could have pulled many many more) and he narrowed it down to six which I will work thru in that last slot.  None should be 10 hours, so it will pretty much assure at least one finish per round!

I’m hoping to finish at least two rounds of the above this month.  Given the first two items are WIPocalypse pieces and the first four meet the Theme criteria (Garden or Flower designs) for this month, I’m starting off pretty well!

As of today, I’ve completed 10 hours on Rosemarkie:

…and the first 10 hours on Bluebell (she’s on white Belfast linen):

I’ve also gotten DH’s first small going.  It’s Edinburgh Castle from Textile Heritage:

Theme-a-licous 2013

New year.. time for new themes from my dear geeky friend Heather! (I discovered Dr. Who this year, catching up on all the “reboot” seasons over the summer, so this graphic is just SO PERFECT!)

While I don’t think I hit every theme in 2012 (or didn’t post about it), I’m definitely in for another round.

I will be skipping the optional “ornament” rider, though.

Jardin January

The holidays were a little stressful…let’s relax in a nice garden. Work on any piece with flowers or gardens.

Given that I’m starting Jardin Prive’s Sampler Aux Bouquets tomorrow, I’ve got the first month covered!  Woot!
