That Bookmark….and an Award!

Annette | August 24, 2008

My bookmark has made it to Canada, so I can show it off here (with its travelling companion):

It’s done with Needle Necessities (Stormy Nights), GAST (Barn Grey) and some purple from a Dinky Dyes Opps pack.  Fabric is Polstitches’ Friendship.

I have been given my first blog award from Lindsay!

Thank you!  This has made my day :)    Now to the tasks at hand…

For those of you who have been awarded, please post the following rules on your Blog:

1. The winner can put the logo on their Blog.
2. Link the person you received your award from.
3. Nominate at least 7 other Blogs.
4. Put the links to those Blogs on yours.
5. Leave a message on the Blogs of those you’ve nominated.

This is tough.  As I have 100+ in my Google Reader, here are just a handful that I never miss:

1 – Susan

2 – Jo

3 – Missy Ann

4 – Erin

5 – Goldie

6 – Heather

7 – Glenda

8 - Valerie

9 – Terri

10 – Melanie

Meme Results and Olympic Pics

Annette | August 20, 2008

Wow!  You all were great on the movies :)   Though I will say that the ones I would have been surprised if anyone got….no one did.  Here they are:

1 – What do you do when the thing you most wanted, so perfect, just comes?

The Red Violin.  This is a fantastic movie.  The story is engrossing, the music amazing and I love love love it.  If you haven’t seen it, get thee to your video store or Netflix queue!

14 -  You’ve been taken to the cleaners, and you don’t even know your pants are off.

Mr. Blandings Builds his Dream House.  My favorite Cary Grant movie.

15 – All you need to start an asylum is an empty room and the right kind of people.

My Man Godfrey.  Another oldie but goodie.  They just don’t make movies like these anymore.

On to my Olympic progress!

I am pleased to stay I am on track for my silver medal!  Gold is pretty far out of reach given my schedule this week, but I knew it was the stretch goal of the three.  I’ve managed two of three on my original to-do list for the Bronze medal:

1 – Finish Mom’s Sampler

This is the Mother’s Day Sampler from the May JustCrossStitch magazine.  Stitched on 28-ct antique-white linen with a combination of GAST, Needle Necessities and Dinky Dyes cotton floss.  I think I used all of two of the called for colors and subbed the rest from my stash!  It is not pressed – I’ll do that before I head to the framer’s on Saturday:

2 – Stitch on Final UFO RR

Not enough hours put in yet, but given a weekend of NO PLANS, I’ll definitely have a good portion done for the Closing Ceremonies!

3 – Finish Fair & Square Round 8 (done prior to Opening Ceremonies)

This one doesn’t count, but I will go ahead and show the squares that were mailed off.  It’s a GenCat freebie called “Quaker Time” done in Gloriana Grape Harvest on cream linen.

4 – Stitch Knotwork Bookmark for Exchange

Well, I have not received word the bookmark I stitched made it, so can’t show that one *quite* yet.  I will show the one I received :)   I love it!

For the Silver Medal, I said:

Finish the three above and work on at least three other WIPs (2 hours each)

1 – Country Cottage Needleworks’ Joyful Summer

I finished off the flower (had only 6 petals and no center), the horizontal stem above joy and the leaf in my two hours.  The fabric is the recommended blue Belfast – just a washed out indoor pic :(

2 – Socks – Cherry Tree Hill Supersock in Fresh Flowers

I’m trying out the new WendyKnits pattern in the last Knit Simple magazine.  Did half the cuff and down the leg during the two hours (riding in a car last weekend)

Not showing #3 yet as I’ve not gotten my two hours done :)

Olympic Stats and a Movie Meme

Annette | August 16, 2008

I’m about 2/3 toward my bronze medal and I’ve made a start on the silver as well…..  pictures (the ones I can show, at least) will be up this weekend.
For some fun, a movie meme I spotted on Mindy’s blog:
1. Pick 15 of your favorite movies.
2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie.
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. NO GOOGLING/using IMDb search functions.
5. Strike it out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it and the movie.

1 – What do you do when the thing you most wanted, so perfect, just comes?
2 – What makes a man a man? A friend of mine once wondered. Is it his origins? The way he comes to life? I don’t think so. It’s the choices he makes. Not how he starts things, but how he decides to end them. Hellboy (Cherylann)

3 - You all wanna be looking very intently at your own belly buttons. I see a head start to rise, violence is going to ensue. Probably guessed we mean to be thieving here but what we’re after is not yours. So, let’s have no undue fussing. Serenity (Lisa, Jenn & Michelle)
4 – Let your mind start a journey to a strange new world! Leave all thoughts of the life you knew before! Let your soul take you where you long to be! Only then can you belong to me... The Phantom of the Opera (Jenn)
5 – The Duchess dove at the Duke just when the Duke dove at the Doge. Now the Duke ducked, the Doge dodged, and the Duchess didn’t. So the Duke got the Duchess, the Duchess got the Doge, and the Doge got the Duke! The Court Jester (Susan)

6 – My dear girl, don’t flatter yourself. What I did this evening was for Queen and country. You don’t think it gave me any pleasure, do you? Thunderball (Terri)
7 – No matter how many times you save the world, it always manages to get back in jeopardy again. Sometimes I just want it to stay saved! You know, for a little bit? I feel like the maid; I just cleaned up this mess! Can we keep it clean for… for ten minutes! The Incredibles (Jenn)
8 -  We’ve all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That’s who we really are. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Lisa and Terri)
9 – With enough courage, you can do without a reputation. Gone with the Wind (Susan)
10 – And since I am dead,  I can take off my head to recite Shakespearean quotations!  No animal nor man can scream like I can with the fury of my recitations. Nightmare Before Christmas (Jenn, Terri)
11 - I believe in love. Not just getting it, but giving it. I think that if you’re able to love someone, even if they don’t know it, even if they can’t love you back, then it’s worth it. Gosford Park (Debbie)
12 -  They take a sharp, red hot poker, stick it up your nose, scramble things about a bit, and then rip it all out through your nostrils. The Mummy (Susan, Michelle, Katrina)
13 – Angels and Demons can’t cross over onto our plane. So, instead we get what I call half-breeds. The influence peddlers. They can only whisper in our ears. But a single word can give you courage, or turn your favorite pleasure into your worst nightmare. Those with the demon’s touch like those part angel, living alongside us. They call it the balance. I call it hypocritical bullshit. Constantine (Lisa)
14 -  You’ve been taken to the cleaners, and you don’t even know your pants are off.
15 – All you need to start an asylum is an empty room and the right kind of people.

Happy Birthday….

Annette | August 6, 2008

It’s Zachary’s tenth birthday today.

So far we’ve played dominoes and had lunch with my grandmother and been to see The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (entertaining and fun, but don’t go expecting the previous two films).  Still on the plans for today are dinner at Ruby Tuesday’s and the above cake with my parents this evening.  He’s going to add to his DS game collection and Lego pile later, too ;)

The cake is from Baskin Robbins (chocolate chip ice cream and chocolate cake) and once again we’ve avoided being featured on one of my new favorite blogs: Cake Wrecks.

Told You So…..

Annette | August 5, 2008

See?  Two posts in two days and then…one post in a month.  I’m sure you can guess that things are a bit….ummm…hectic around here.  Let’s review the to do list:

  1. Finish Mom’s sampler (about 85% done) – no fixed due date Haven’t touched :(
  2. Stitch on final UFO RR – August 11 Some (it’s on black which means daylight stitching – weekends only)
  3. Finish Fair & Square Round 8 squares (about 40% done) – August 11 Done!  Will be mailed Thursday
  4. Stitch Knotwork Bookmark (have fabric and overdyed floss chosen) – August 15 Half-stitched, still should make date

Well, not as much progress as hoped, but considering the number of hours I’ve worked and other various issues, it could have been much much worse. The Stitching Olympics have been floating around, and while I won’t compete in the defined events on The Wagon, I will set some medal-worthy goals to complete by August 24.

  • Bronze – Finish the last three items above (1, 2 & 4)
  • Silver – Finish the three above and work on at least three other WIPs (2 hours each)
  • Gold – Bronze & Silver and complete one of those WIPs

The other fun thing from the past week:  I bought an airline ticket.  Well, technically Mom bought the tickets, I’m paying for the hotel room ;)  Where are we headed?  Celebration of Needlework in Louisville in October!   I will register for the Friday Night Event yet this week, but no pre-registered classes (maybe a Make It, Take It or two).  I’d rather visit with BB’ers during my time there. :D  And in closing, a smile!  This is one of my very favorite bits from Sesame Street.  I remember watching with my younger brother and this has stuck in my head for an undisclosed number of years……
