Stitching, knitting, reading, life…whatever catches my eye

Long Time No Blog

I haven’t posted because I’ve been working furiously on an RR.  I admit, I’m angry with myself that it took me 2+ months to stitch this house:

Difficult?  No.  But the chart was a pain-in-the-you-know-what.  Fractionals that just didn’t belong (and I skipped) and confusing backstitch directions.  I will never stitch the full piece.

Anyway, it’s off to Texas.  Thankfully when I was ready to throw it across the room, I picked up my latest Fair & Square round (it’s only going across town) or HoE Biscornu Exchange piece (a longer trip ahead for that one!).  Those went in the mail today, too.  I picked a *much* simpler chart for the next RR house and have already pulled floss to start it this weekend.  No more late mailing!!

This week I’ll pick up something a bit more soothing….

  1. The house looks great!

  2. You did a good job on the tough house. It looks very good. It is so cute.

  3. But you have done such a beautiful job! That house is gorgeous! And that snowman – I LOVE him!

  4. … but it came out so pretty. I love this house very much. Who is the designer?

  5. I’m sorry it was such a PIA – I think the end result is lovely!

  6. Ugh, I hate it when that happens. It’s small! it should be easy!

I do love that snowman, the tilt to his head is so cute.

  7. Looks great Annette – I think we’ve all had our share of *those* type of projects that just seem to turn out to be way more trouble than you expect! 🙂

  8. Well it looks great! That is a ton of detail to cram into such a small space, though, especially with a crummy chart.

  9. Sorry the chart was such a PITA. But it IS absolutely adorable! Good work!

  10. It’s a lovely house – well done!

I’m really liking that RR. I am new to the world of stitching and have been browsing various blogs to try and gain some knowledge and get some tips / ideas. I originally started with a stamped, then counted “kits”. I’m working on my 2nd chart and have noticed some big differences in floss types and quality.
My Cross Stitch Mentor has told me that I’m ready to graduate from Aida, but I really like Aida. Maybe it’s just beginner’s comfort???
If you would answer my question… What type of fabric or fabrics do you prefer and why? Brands and counts?
I would appreciate any advice, thanks!
