Annette's Acre

Stitching, knitting, reading, life…whatever catches my eye
October 8th, 2009 by Annette

I finished this last night.  Late.

Because I *had* to know how it all turned out.  I couldn’t wait one more day.

Don’t get me wrong, this is paranormal romance.  That means a “Happy Ever After” will be at the end.  It’s all the other bits that tie it together and given this is the beginning of a series, how that influences the ending for the various characters.  Yes, there was one plot point that had no resolution, but really, it’s rather obvious how it had to play out….

I gave some thought to why this book (and the others on my “recommended” list) appeals to me. Didn’t take long to figure it out….

I could live happily in the worlds these authors have created…..

In most cases, I don’t want to be one of the characters (except for Outlander.  I’d have to be Claire… how else to be close to Jamie?  Yeah, it means med school, but a sacrifice I’m willing to make.)

Black Dagger Brotherhood – I want to hang out with the Brothers.  Play pool with Butch, watch Beaches with Rhage, do techie stuff with Vishous, etc.*  Even babysit for Nala.  I’m so there.

The stories are comfortable, the characters are strong and incredibly real to me and it is perfect escapism.

Worlds I want to escape in over and over again.

*Yes, I’m serious.  That’s it.  These are married men!  Now, if I could insert myself any point in the series….well…that’s a different story…

  1. I can see it now “Annette” in hand high gothic lettering. 😀

  2. This one is very high on my *need to read* list. Glad to know you enjoyed it so.

  3. OMG I didn’t realize this was out. MUST. GET. IT. NOW.

    Thanks for posting about it!

  4. I’m reading the Black Dagger brotherhood series now – ready for #4, I think. Is Covet as good as these?

I just finished The Firey Cross and ready for the next Jamie and Claire book, too. Love this series!!!

Have you read any of Terry Goodkind’s series, The Sword of Truth? I highly recommend those, as well as any written by Anne Rice!

I think I’ll go by B&N and get the next Jamie and Claire book this weekend 🙂

  5. I actually read all the way to chapter 5, couldn’t figure out who the H&h were and had to look at the few pages to figure it out…should’ve looked at the back blurb.
It was alright. I’ll read the next one. But I prefer the BDB (I wish Lover Mine would hurry up and arrive!)
