How About a Movie?

In honor of my new K-drawn header graphic:  The Top Five Nine Christmas movies here at The Acre.

In no particular order…..

Miracle on 34th Street – the original Black & White version with Natalie Wood and Maureen O’Hara is by far the best.  I watch this without fail every year…. today was the day 🙂

The Nightmare Before Christmas – My two favorite holidays in one movie?  Definitely my favorite Disney movie.

Prancer – Cries of “Prancer’s in the shed by my house!” can be heard often after we watch this holiday film.  The movie was filmed in a small town in Michigan (Three Oaks) where I grew up.  I’ve been to the butcher shop (different name), walked down main street and attended church (the outside of the church… the inside doesn’t look like the one in the movie unless there’s been some MAJOR renovation) in the movie locations.  Heck, I still have family living in the area.

The Santa Clause – This is K’s favorite.  We watched it last weekend to start the holiday-viewing season.

The Bishop’s Wife – A lovely old movie with David Niven and Cary Grant.  I’m sure it’ll be on one of the classic movie channels this month.

A Christmas Story – We watch this at least once thru on Christmas Day thanks to the TBS marathon.  I will say this one has grown on me thru the years.  When I first saw the movie, I *hated* the “what does a piggy do?” scene and still find myself turning away at that point.  I wonder where I could find some bunny pajamas for Z?

The Muppet Christmas Carol – “Light the lamp, not the rat!”  Yes, there are more classic versions of the Dickens tale, but where could you find one with talking frogs, pigs and rats and such catchy tunes?

White Christmas – I adore Danny Kaye and Bing Crosby and there’s so much more to love in this film.

Poirot’s Christmas – Not sure how it happened, but this has become traditional viewing for the whole family on Christmas Eve.  Yes, we know the outcome so there’s no “mystery” left, but we still watch every year.

  1. We saw White Christmas on the big screen last weekend. What a treat!

  2. I don’t think I’ve seen most of them! My favorite Christmas movie is “Love Actually”. Definitely recommended viewing. In fact, I might slip it into my laptop, so that I can watch it while puttering in my stitching room today.

    Enjoy your vacation!
