Turtle Trot – February

Turtle Trot 2015

Travel mucks with the posting schedule…

Three of my ten pieces saw action this month.

Mill Hill Wanda’s Witchery has a little more progress.  I worked on the outside frame:

MH Wanda's Witchery

I finished Part 1 of Lizzie*Kate’s Unseen Things Mystery

Unseen Things

And finally… I finished January’s Chalk design from Hands on Design

January Let it Snow

On to next month! 🙂

Sunday Stitches

I’m a homebody.  Of course, this may surprise you given the amount of travel I do for work, but I truly prefer to curl up on my own couch each and every night with needle in hand.  So far this year, it’s been one busy weekend after another and I finally got a quiet one!  Minimal errands. DVR full of good stuff and stitching galore (that’s never an issue).

I finished part one of Lizzie Kate’s Things Unseen Sampler:

Things Unseen Sampler

The fabric is 32-ct PTP Wren and Weeks flosses.  I’m *very* tempted to start part 3 (the bottom) and then do part 2.  I’m ornery that way, I suppose 😉  We’ll see what happens next weekend!

I also put in the first stitches on January’s Hands on Design “Year in Chalk”  this morning.

January Year in Chalk

This is 30-ct WDW Gunmetal linen.  January calls for Chalk and Tropical Ocean GAST.

You may have noticed the increased use of QSnaps lately (or you may not – no worries).  While I still consider myself an “in-hand” stitcher primarily, the ‘snaps are definitely handy for linens and opening up the holes.

Getting old sucks.

WIP Wednesday

I spent the weekend away with a few friends and found time to make more progress on Part 1 of the Lizzie Kate Things Unseen Sampler.  The final installment arrived in the mail while I was gone so now I know what I’m working toward 🙂

Things Unseen

As for the Reading Challenge, I finished off Raging Heat (not counting it as I started it last year) and started my book for #29 – A book set somewhere you’ve always wanted to visit

I adore this series and excited to read Peter Grant’s latest adventure 🙂

Sunday Sunday…

I’m very very glad this week is over.

Since last Sunday I’ve spent more time in a dental chair than I care to acknowledge.  And I’ve got at least two more visits next week.  The good news is that the current pain level has decreased and at the end of it all, should be eliminated.

But it’s a painful journey to get there.

Other than a few more hexes, not much more on the stitching front.  Trying to do too much while knocking back the odd pain killer is just an open frog invitation.

I picked out the next Sulky project:

It’ll get started sometime soon 🙂

The next part of the Lizzie*Kate Hearts and Holly 2013 Mystery has come out…

I’ve made a start today. I very much like the Dickens feel.

That’s it for me. Anything interesting for your Sunday stitching?

Sunday-ish Swap 9/24/2013

Yes, it’s Tuesday.

But I was soclose to finishing the first part of the new Lizzie*Kate 2013 Mystery Sampler “Holly and Hearts” that I had to delay.  Here’s the completed Part 1:

Fabric: Picture this Plus Doubloon (32-ct Belfast)

Fibers: DMC

Started: 9/15/2013

Part 1 Complete: 9/23/2013

Weeks and I have a rough history, so I chose to use DMC for this sampler and it made me much happier 🙂

Last year’s L*K Halloween Mystery included a handful of beads in each part.  None were charted for this one, but I’m going to add a few anyway.  In the tree band, there are a few individual stitches charted that I’ll bead instead and in the bottom snowflake band, I will add beads to the centers.

Speaking of that band… there’s a small error in the chart:

In the far right snowflake, the center line should have an extra stitch to make him match his brethren in the row.  I didn’t notice until after I had finished the band, so mine will continue to be unique, but thought I would bring it to your attention if you prefer symmetry.

For the remainder of this week, I’m picking up my hexes:

Tula Pink’s Hex on the Beach 😉

Sunday Swap – 9/15/2013

Welcome to this week’s Sunday Swap 🙂

For reference – here’s last week’s starting point.

I completed Ava Gardner this week along with the overdye portion of the outer border:

Stars for a New Millennium

(click to biggify)  Given I was gone for 48 hours on a business trip, I wasn’t sure if I was going to get the square completed this week let alone any border!  Ava moved along pretty quickly.

And a closeup for Ms. Gardner…

This square included jessica stitches – a first in the piece. I like this one.

I also like the use of the overdye in this square.  I was initially concerned with the greens in the corners, but it all balances out with the overdye.

I just need to trust Tony (Minieri – the designer).  😉

This week’s piece is a late entrant to the stash.  I picked it up yesterday at Attic 🙂

Lizzie Kate 2013 Mystery

This is the new Holly & Hearts Mystery Sampler from Lizzie*Kate.

Fabric is Picture this Plus Doubloon. Fibers are DMC (I avoid Weeks Dye Works if at all possible – hate stitching with it).

I started this last night.  I’d finished Ava’s square and some border and rather than start something else, I went ahead and started.  I shouldn’t have.  All of this will be ripped out and restitched today… about 3/4″ to the left.  I debated last night whether to cut for 2″ or 3″ margins.  I settled on 2.5″.  Or thought I did.  I actually cut the piece for 2.5″ on the vertical and 2″ on the horizontal but started 2.5″ in….which leaves a bit too little on the right.

Luckily, this was only a couple hours work and thanks to a full slate of baseball and football today I’ll be able to restitch this bit and then some 🙂

If I finish this first part of the mystery before the end of the week, I’ll have an early Sunday.  Next week is quilting week!

The Finishing Fun Still Going!

Hopefully, my two week absence will be worth the wait…as I’ve got two finishes to share!

First, a very quick stitch – Lizzie*Kate’s Cross Stitcher in Residence

This is on platinum Cashel and I changed up most of the colors 🙂  I still need to find a small charm for the house, but I will take care of that on my next LNS visit.

The big finish is my Lizzie*Kate Mystery Sampler!  I put the final touches on yesterday afternoon.

Fabric is the recommended Tin Roof in 35 count.  No intentional changes 😉

I’m staying with the Halloween theme for one more design this month and heading off to a Zombie Ball thanks to The Sampler Girl.

Maybe I’ll see you there? 🙂

September WIPocalypse – Let’s Dance!

My timing is perfect for this month’s WIPocalypse post!  I have TWO…yes, TWO Happy Dances to share!  And both from the WIPocalypse list 🙂

First – my long neglected Mirabilia Round Robin from 2011.  It came home needing only Queen Mermaid stitched.

You would think I could get right on that, yes?  Unfortunately, this makes the *third* time I have stitched QM on a Mira RR and I can definitively state I will never stitch the whole piece.  I did change her beads a bit to be ornery, but now that it’s all done, I’m so glad she’s there 🙂

The mermaids are stitched on Star Sapphire Jobelan and the borders were done in SNC’s Warlock Road.

For the second finish…. Little House Needleworks Sea to Shining Sea:

I was drawn to this design for the palm tree and saguaro cactus there on the left and once *those* were done, it languished in the WIP pile until this year.  It’s stitched on natural Belfast linen with the Crescent silks included with each of the designs.  (this is pre-Belle Soie).

The only intentional change I made is for those little white dots in the center panel.  I used white MH beads rather than doing individual stitches.  I hate “rogue” stitches 😉  There are some unintentional changes (especially in this panel… the frogs live in that river, I swear) but nothing too obvious, I hope.

That’s two items off the list!!  Woot!!

Also making fine progress on my L*K Mystery Sampler….

Only the last part to do and it’s my favorite of the three!

WIPocalypse and Theme-a-licious Updates

So this is going to be pretty easy….

WIPocalypse was a big fat ZERO for this full moon.  That’s right, I didn’t touch a single item on my original list.

Oops.

Theme-a-licious was a bit more productive.  Here was the Olympic plan:

Flying Needles (Knitting)

Bronze:  Finish Matthias Scarf  – Yes!
Silver: Finish Multnomah Shawl – Yes!
Gold: Finish K’s socks  – Progressed to about 8″ on the first sock…

Flashing Needles (Stitching)

Bronze: Finish one Retreat Project  – Yup!
Silver: Caught up on Lizzie*Kate Halloween Mystery  – Finished part 1 and started 2.
Gold: Finish three items from WIPocalypse List – HA!

Speedy Needles (Quilting)

Bronze: Cut/Assemble background for first Sweetheart House block – Shouldn’t left this at “cut”
Silver:  Finish first Sweetheart block (appliqué) – ummm…no
Gold: Bind Witchie Quilt – HA!  Oh sometimes I crack myself up…

Based on the above, I’ve earned two Bronze and one Silver (see previous post for details).

  • Bronze: Finish Matthias Scarf
  • Silver: Finish Multnomah Shawl
  • Bronze: Finish one Retreat project (I finished two, but I’m only counting for one medal ;))

According to the last Olympics, I can proudly fly the Belgium Flag with these results 🙂

September plans…

September Smalls

We all love gadgets, and none better than the teensy tools and holders we make ourselves. Let’s stitch some smalls–needlebooks, fobs, biscornus, scissors keeps, pincushions–or knit some teensy things–amigurumi, jewelry, sachets….

Woot!  I got this one covered!  The next retreat project I’m working on is a scissor fob and pincushion and I will pull out a couple of the smaller items from the WIPocalypse list 🙂  And if I am very ambitious, I’ll get the L*K Mystery Sampler done.  Here’s where I’m at…

Totally doable, right??

July 31st, 2012

Perfect Storm

Yikes… when I signed up for the WIPocalypse and Theme-a-licious posts, I was kinda hoping to have at least *two* posts per month.  Not have them both hit on the same day… yikes.

Old Business

The penguin is off to Nicole!  Can’t wait to see him stitched up 🙂

WIPocalypse

One more item off the list…

Not bad for restarting him this month 🙂

Themealicious

For July – holidays were the theme.  In addition to the Christmas-y charmer above, I started the Lizzie*Kate Halloween Mystery.

Because… well… I could.  And Halloween is my very favorite holiday 🙂

(sorry for the blurry pic… yikes)

August plans tomorrow….
