Star Gazing

I would like you to meet Marlon Brando…

He’s awfully dashing… even though those small white triangles were a royal pain in the arse.

I added a bit more sashing and extended the side borders down in this round.

As much as I love working on this piece, my fingers are so sore from working with the larger needles and canvas!  Ten hours is about all I can manage before I need a break.

A WIP or Two

I’ve finished another square on Stars for a New Millennium.  Please meet Clark Gable.

Here he is with Marilyn (on the left) and the beginnings of Vivien Leigh (right).  Also, a bit of border which I must admit, I dearly love!!

I have a little more progress on Christmastide at Holly House

I really need to focus on this if I want to finish yet this year….

Or maybe I’ll sneak this one in as a final 2012 finish

I’m on vacation through the rest of the year, so hopefully *something* will get done 🙂

A Dose of Reality

Last year, I spent a couple of days organizing The Stash.  I sorted, shifted, alphabetized, labelled, bagged and boxed for more hours than I care to admit.  Today, I spent a couple hours tidying up and putting away purchases from the last year.

It wasn’t *that* bad – I did do some thru the year and drastically reduced my stashed purchases.

A couple things I learned while tidying today:

  • I really like Mill Hill kits
  • I bought significantly less yarn this year, but still could use another box to store
  • I could stitch nothing but small kits (for example, the previously mentioned Mill Hill kits) and be quite busy for a couple years.  At least.

In preparation for the WIPocalypse starting on Sunday, I decided to take some time to catalog my actual WIPs.  See, I’d made my list strictly from memory… of what I *knew* was started and that I wanted to finish.

I thought I’d find about 30.  Maybe 35, tops.

Yeah.

I found 46.

Oh wait…. make that 47.

Holy cow.  I’d have to finish my entire WIPocalypse list to even approach 35.

Based on these findings and the fact that the year is quickly drawing to a close, I’ve made a couple adjustments to my List.  I added the two pieces (A Good Marriage and my Mirabilia Mermaid RR) I’d hoped to finish before year end as my optimism evidently knew no bounds on those.  I also eliminated all but one new start from the list.  Given the plan is to finish it next year (the monthly CCN Cottages), I’m leaving it on.

Now, I’m off to add a page with the full list…..it’ll be on one of the fancy tabs above  🙂

Holiest of Nights WIP Pic

As requested here’s a pic of progress on this fine Sunday morning:

This is Homespun Elegance Holiest of Nights on vintage Misty Rain by Lakeside Linen. I did swap out the called for Weeks floss (with assistance from the lovely Heather last weekend.

The fabric is 40 count so I’m now on the search for new angels for the corners. I’ve found a few options online. We’ll see if any work out.

I’ve got three goals for this month.

    Finish Holiest of Nights
    Finish Measi’s Mirabilia RR
    Finish November Pine Mountain Pillow

I’m on vacation from work Nov 18 thru 27. I think I’m in good shape! Of course, now that I’ve put it out there all bets are off!

Chatelaine Greek Mandala Progress

I’ve been plugging away on my Greek Mandala:

I have to admit, I’m having a hard time putting it down.  The colors are just so gorgeous and the design is just complex enough to keep me interested, but no so complex to be frustrating.  I can do one quadrant and then use it as a reference for the other three rather than continue to look at the chart….

Just the right mix after long meeting-filled days.  I’m hoping to have this part done and be on to the next before the end of the month.  We shall see 🙂

(Now that I’ve written that I will lose all interest…. you do know that, right??)

Where Did January Go?

Another weekend gone and with it the month of January.  How time flies, eh?

I finished the first of the Chewy socks (yet another craptastic photograph… oooo):

 Second one is mid-cast-on.

Also made good progress on Mill Hill Winter Wonderland thanks to a few Perry Mason movies on Sunday:

Saturday, Mom and I went to the annual Sewing and Craft Fair.  I did pick up some vanilla and cinnamon (Watkins – best stuff!), a roll of interfacing (for applique) and two half yards of a Halloween print.  I also found a book that looked very interesting:

How can you resist a book with crossed swords and Templar shields?

Lots of great stuff here… though sadly, no Halloween 🙁

At the show, the cost was $30.  That was a bit steep, so I left it behind.  When I got home, a quick check of Amazon found the same book for $18.80! Ordered on Saturday and arrived today.

Believe it or not…..

…a WIP pic!

Pic is a little dark, but the color of floss and fabric is very close.  I’m taking this class at my LNS next month and need to have a finished small pillow (didn’t want to do the sample shown).    This is Little House Needleworks “Always and Forever” on Lakeside Linen Vintage Mourning Dove (40-ct over 2) using one strand Dinky Dyes Dandenong silk.  It’s tiny, but I think it will go well with the vintage-look button trim.

I’ve been stitching other stuff which will be known in time….
