Death of a Darklord by Laurell K Hamilton

A book by Ms. Hamilton outside of her Anita Blake and Merry Gentry series.  It was originally released in 1995 but this cover is the 2006 re-release.  According to Ms. Hamilton’s website, this is a stand-alone book. I did like the overall theme/story and the magical “theory” of the world created.  It’s very different from the Anita and Merry series and suitable for my teen daughter to read (unlike the other series).I’ve got three issues with this book:
  • Both the story and writing are very choppy.  Short sentences and abrupt dialog and switching scenes.
  • Characters that say “I have a theory” or “I think I know…” and then never explain themselves.
  • The story simply ends.  There’s no summary, no indication of the fate of many of the characters…..it just quits.
